Best Family-Style Alaskan Halibut Pie for Early Autumn

Flaky, sweet, white, versatile and nutritious are just five of the adjectives that may be used to describe Alaskan halibut. Gigantic is another one. That’s because these tasty Alaskan denizens of the deep are known to reach weights in excess of 500 pounds! With that said, here’s a look at one great way to prepare the incredible fish for your family this autumn:

Alaskan Halibut Pie

Alaskan halibut pie is a perfect dish to serve in autumn as a late lunch or early dinner. It takes about an hour to make from start to finish and serves six people. In order to make it, you’ll need to obtain the following ingredients:

  • 1 lb. Alaskan halibut fillets from Tanner’s Fresh Fish Processing
  • 1 can Cream of mushroom soup (8 oz. condensed)
  • 1 cup Chopped onion
  • ½ cup Chopped celery
  • 1 tbsp. Fresh parsley
  • 3 tbsp. Salted butter
  • 2 Pastry shells (9 inch)

To start making the dish, place a pot of salted water onto the stove and bring it to a boil. Add the Alaskan halibut fillets to the water and then cover the pot with a lid. Let the Alaskan halibut fillets cook until they flake apart. Once they do, remove the pieces from the water and let them cool.

Meanwhile, add the butter, onions, parsley and chopped celery to a sauté pan. Then sauté the ingredients until they are tender. Next, prepare the condensed cream of mushroom soup and add the contents of the sauté pan to it.

Continue by placing the Alaskan halibut flakes into the bottom of a 9 inch pastry shell. Pour the mushroom soup mixture over the Alaskan halibut and then seal the top of the pie with the other pastry crust. Poke a few vent holes into the top of the Alaskan halibut pie with a standard kitchen fork.

Afterward, place the Alaskan halibut pie into a 350 degree Fahrenheit, pre-heated oven and let it cook. When the pie crust turns a delicious brown, remove it from the oven. Let the Alaskan halibut pie stand for at least five minutes before attempting to serve it.

We should also mention that the Alaskan halibut pie should be filling enough on its own. However, if you want to serve it with a side dish, try using wild rice, boiled redskin potatoes or succotash salad.
