Fresh Alaskan Seafood Makes Chinese New Year’s Celebrations Tasty

Fish for moon festival.
As January 2014 comes to a close, many families will undoubtedly be preparing for Chinese New Year celebrations. If you are hoping to get in on the fun this year, don’t forget to order our fresh Alaskan seafood. After all, seafood is an essential part of the festivities.

In the Asian culture, fish is seen as more than just a nutritious meal. It’s also looked at as a symbol of wish fulfillment, abundance, good fortune and prosperity. The list of fish most often served during the celebrations includes salmon, shrimp, clams, snails and assorted white fish. So you could essentially serve Alaskan cod, rockfish and halibut too.

Our fresh and smoked Alaskan salmon offerings could easily be paired with the classic dish, Yee Sang. It typically includes salmon sashimi, sesame seeds, pickled fruits, roasted peanuts, vegetables and Chinese five spice seasoning. As for our other tasty Alaskan seafood offerings, they could be incorporated into dumplings, soups, stir-fry dishes, spring rolls and long life noodle combinations. They’d also make celebration worthy crab rangoons, wontons and steamed dishes.

One of our favorite dishes is hot and sour shrimp soup. It is made with Alaskan spot shrimp, spring onions, red chilies and ginger. Those ingredients are typically added to a savory broth made of chicken stock, rice wine vinegar, caster sugar and soy sauce. Contemplate serving it as an appetizer along with a plate of Alaskan crab spring rolls, dipping sauces and Alaskan seafood fried rice. We’d suggest using the spot shrimp, razor clams and King crab in the rice dish.

For a main course, try serving sesame seed crusted Alaskan salmon or a steamed Alaskan halibut with Chinese vegetables. Both Alaskan seafood dishes should make welcome additions to a reunion dinner table.

Have a Happy New Year!
