Tanner’s Alaskan Seafood carefully packs every order to protect the quality and safety of your seafood during transit. Please review the following information before placing your order.

How We Ship

Frozen and refrigerated orders are shipped through FedEx Express. Most shipments have an estimated transit time of one to two business days.

FedEx delivery dates and delivery times are estimates. Delivery may occur later in the day or on the following business day because of weather, seasonal volume, mechanical interruptions, routing issues, or other carrier conditions.

A signature is not normally required. Customers may request signature service before an order ships. Tanner’s may contact a customer to discuss additional delivery arrangements for certain orders.

Shipping Schedule

We normally ship Monday through Wednesday. Thursday shipping may be available under certain circumstances with prior approval.

Orders placed before 3:30 PM Alaska Time normally ship the following business day. Orders placed after 3:30 PM Wednesday, or from Thursday through Sunday, normally ship the following Monday.

Orders must be placed at least one business day before the requested shipping date. We do not offer same-day shipping.

We generally do not ship when the expected delivery date falls on a major holiday.

Shipping Locations and Charges

We ship to residential and commercial addresses throughout all 50 states.

An additional shipping charge applies to orders going to Alaska and Hawaii. Contact us before ordering for current Canadian shipping availability and pricing.

Free shipping is available on qualifying seafood combinations, subscriptions, and orders totaling eight pounds or more. Excludes shelf stable products. (Batters, Jars and Cans)

PO boxes may only be used for qualifying nonperishable products shipped through the United States Postal Service. Frozen and refrigerated products require a physical delivery address.

Delivery Addresses

Please provide a complete and accurate delivery address, including applicable apartment, suite, unit, floor, business name, gate code, and telephone number.

Tanner’s ships to the address submitted with the order. We are not responsible for delays, misdeliveries, or losses caused by incorrect or incomplete customer-provided information.

Address changes requested after an order has shipped may incur a $25 carrier correction fee and may delay delivery.

Please review your shipping-confirmation email immediately and contact us if anything appears incorrect.

Tracking and Receiving Your Shipment

Customers are responsible for monitoring the tracking information supplied by FedEx and arranging for the package to be brought indoors promptly after delivery.

FedEx deliveries may occur as late as 8:00 PM. If shipping to a business, apartment building, secured property, or other location with limited access, confirm that someone will be available to receive the package.

For gifts, please notify the recipient that a perishable shipment is on the way.

We cannot provide refunds or replacements for packages delivered within the expected delivery window but left unattended, unrefrigerated, or exposed to unsafe conditions after delivery.

Product Arrival and Temperature

Frozen seafood may arrive:

  • Completely frozen;

  • Partially frozen with ice crystals remaining; or

  • Thawed while still cold at 40°F or below.

A product arriving thawed does not necessarily mean that it is spoiled. Seafood that still contains ice crystals or measures 40°F or below may generally be refrigerated or refrozen.

Even smoked, cured, vacuum-packed, or fully cooked seafood is perishable and must remain properly refrigerated.

Do not consume seafood that arrives warm, above 40°F, with damaged product packaging, or in a condition that creates a reasonable food-safety concern. Contact Tanner’s immediately for assistance.

Reporting a Damaged, Missing, or Temperature-Affected Order

Contact Tanner’s within 24 hours of the carrier-recorded delivery time if an order arrives damaged, incomplete, warm, or otherwise unacceptable.

Email info@tannersfish.com or call 907-567-3222.

Please provide:

  • Your order number;

  • A photograph of the shipping box;

  • A clear photograph of the FedEx shipping label;

  • Photographs of any visible punctures, crushing, moisture, or other damage;

  • Photographs of the insulated container and inner liner;

  • Photographs of the cooling materials as they appeared when the box was opened;

  • Photographs of every affected product; and

  • A photograph showing the complete contents of the shipment.

These photographs are required for shipping-damage, missing-product, and spoilage claims.

Please take the photographs before products, cooling materials, or packaging are moved, emptied, discarded, consumed, or altered whenever reasonably possible.

A photograph showing thawed or flattened cooling material does not by itself establish that the seafood was spoiled. Tanner’s will review the product condition, temperature information, transit history, packaging condition, cooling materials, delivery timing, and all other available evidence together.

Temperature Concerns

If you believe a product arrived too warm, we strongly encourage taking a temperature reading immediately after opening the shipment and before refrigerating or refreezing the products.

Place a clean digital food thermometer between two sealed product packages. Do not puncture vacuum-sealed seafood packaging.

A temperature photograph or video should clearly show:

  • The thermometer positioned between the sealed products;

  • The displayed temperature;

  • The products being measured; and

  • Enough of the shipment to identify the applicable order.

Temperature readings taken after products have been refrigerated, refrozen, left unattended, or otherwise removed from their original delivery condition may not establish the arrival temperature.

We understand that not every customer owns a food thermometer. The absence of a temperature reading does not automatically disqualify a claim. Tanner’s will consider all available evidence.

Because touch alone cannot establish an exact product temperature, Tanner’s may request additional information when a claim is based primarily on the product reportedly feeling warm.

Retaining Products and Packaging

Please retain the products, shipping box, FedEx label, insulation, cooling materials, and product packaging until Tanner’s confirms that they are no longer required.

For larger or unusual claims, Tanner’s or FedEx may request:

  • Additional photographs or video;

  • A signed loss or damage statement;

  • Inspection of the shipment and packaging;

  • Carrier pickup;

  • Confirmation that the complete shipment remains available; or

  • Reasonable documentation showing that affected products were disposed of.

Products involved in a claim should not be consumed, sold, distributed, given away, or discarded before the requested documentation is completed.

If retaining a product would create a safety concern, contact Tanner’s for instructions.

Do not ship perishable seafood back to Tanner’s unless we provide specific written instructions.

Claim Review

Tanner’s reviews every claim individually. We may consider:

  • FedEx tracking and scan history;

  • The original delivery estimate;

  • Actual delivery timing;

  • Weather or carrier exceptions;

  • Exterior and interior packaging condition;

  • Photographs and video;

  • Cooling-material condition;

  • Product condition;

  • Temperature information when available;

  • The completeness of the shipment;

  • Customer communications; and

  • Any FedEx inspection or claim findings.

A claim may be denied or limited when:

  • Required photographs are not provided;

  • The complete order cannot be accounted for;

  • Products were consumed, distributed, or discarded before documentation;

  • Evidence was altered or created after the original delivery condition changed;

  • The customer refuses to provide reasonably requested information;

  • The shipment or packaging is unavailable for a requested inspection;

  • The problem resulted from an incorrect address, refused delivery, unattended package, or customer-requested delivery change; or

  • The available evidence does not reasonably establish loss, carrier damage, or unsafe arrival condition.

Shipping Protection

Optional Shipping Protection may be purchased at checkout. Shipping Protection provides additional coverage for qualifying carrier loss, physical carrier damage, or spoilage resulting from a carrier delay beyond the published transit window.

For an approved Shipping Protection claim, the standard resolution is one complimentary reshipment of the affected products to the original delivery address.

If the original product is unavailable, Tanner’s may substitute a product of comparable value or offer another appropriate resolution.

Cash refunds and store credits are not guaranteed under Shipping Protection. Tanner’s may offer a merchandise refund or credit when a replacement is unavailable or when another resolution is appropriate.

Shipping Protection must be purchased for each box in a multi-box shipment. An uninsured box does not become covered because another box in the same order was insured.

The Shipping Protection fee is earned and becomes nonrefundable once the order has shipped, including when Tanner’s approves a replacement, store credit, or merchandise refund.

Shipping Protection does not cover:

  • Incorrect or incomplete addresses;

  • Address changes requested after shipment;

  • Refused deliveries;

  • Customer-requested carrier holds, redirects, or delivery changes;

  • Packages delivered within the expected window but left unattended;

  • Failure to retrieve a package promptly;

  • Normal thawing when products remain at 40°F or below;

  • Products consumed, distributed, or discarded before documentation;

  • Claims submitted without the required photographs; or

  • Problems occurring after successful delivery.

Purchasing Shipping Protection does not remove the documentation requirements or guarantee automatic claim approval.

If Shipping Protection is not purchased, Tanner’s may be unable to provide a complimentary replacement or credit for spoilage caused solely by carrier delay, severe weather, or other transit conditions outside Tanner’s control.

Verified packing errors, incorrect products, missing products, and other issues caused by Tanner’s will be reviewed regardless of whether Shipping Protection was purchased.

Resolutions and Refunds

When Tanner’s verifies a problem, available resolutions may include:

  • Replacement of the affected products;

  • Store credit;

  • A refund for the affected merchandise to the original payment method; or

  • Another resolution agreed to by Tanner’s and the customer.

Tanner’s will determine the appropriate resolution after reviewing the circumstances and available evidence.

Customers may not receive both a replacement and a refund for the same affected products.

If only part of an order is affected, the replacement, credit, or refund may be limited to that portion.

Refunds are calculated using the amount actually paid for the affected merchandise after discounts. Refunds will not exceed the amount paid for the affected merchandise.

Shipping Protection fees become nonrefundable after shipment. Original shipping charges and address-correction fees are nonrefundable unless Tanner’s determines otherwise.

Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method. Processing time after issuance is determined by the customer’s bank or card provider.

A refund or replacement issued by Tanner’s is separate from any recovery Tanner’s may pursue against FedEx or another carrier.

Perishable Products and Returns

We do not accept returns of seafood or other perishable products. Perishable products cannot be reused or resold.

Do not mail or ship perishable products back to Tanner’s unless we provide specific written instructions.

Refusing a delivery does not establish that the products were spoiled and does not automatically create eligibility for a refund or replacement. Customers should accept the delivery, document its condition, and contact Tanner’s immediately.

Weather and Carrier Delays

Tanner’s ships year-round from Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. Weather, seasonal volume, mechanical problems, and carrier-network disruptions can affect transit times.

We pack orders with insulation and cooling materials designed for the expected transit period. However, no shipping carrier can eliminate every possibility of delay.

If a delay occurs, continue monitoring the tracking information and contact Tanner’s if the package arrives in an unacceptable condition.

Special Events and Holidays

Carrier delays can occur even when an overnight service is selected.

If seafood is needed for a holiday, wedding, party, birthday, dinner, or other specific occasion, we recommend scheduling delivery at least two business days before the event whenever possible.

Tanner’s is not responsible for missed events, replacement meals, lost income, lost time, or other indirect or consequential expenses resulting from a carrier delay or delivery interruption.
